Will a travel agent help me plan a honeymoon using my Amex Delta Sky Miles and HHilton Diamond Member pts?

Question: Will a travel agent help me plan a honeymoon using my Amex Delta Sky Miles and HHilton Diamond Member pts?
I don’t know the best way to go about planning my honeymoon?
I’m a HHilton Diamond Member with over 70k points and an Amex holder with Delta Sky Miles. So I’d like to utilize these. Maybe I should call Amex and cardholder services can help me plan a vacation? Does anyone have experience using that service versus using a travel agent versus figuring it all out yourself from scratch? We want to go to the Caribbean.

Would there be any benefit in using a travel agent anymore?

Question: Would there be any benefit in using a travel agent anymore?
I know a long time ago before they had websites like expedia and orbitz you’d call a travel agent to make your arrangements, but would there be any cost saving benefit in using one today? Would it make any difference if I used a travel agent to like go to Florida instead of planning it myself?

Yes. Keep in mind that sites like Expedia and Orbitz still have booking charges. Even using sites like Priceline who claim to dismiss booking fees have their cons. Only if you use their “name your price” there is no booking fee. You then have to tell them what you would be willing to pay for a flight for example. If they accept it, you have to pay for it and accept whatever flight they give you.

Now you’ve booked your trip online. Something comes up or happens on your trip. What are you going to do then. Call the online 1-800-who-cares number. You’ll spend half a day getting a hold of someone who is probably not going to be able to do anything for you within 24 hours and most likely they won’t be able to resolve anything until after you are home from your vacation if ever.

Another thing to consider is the great prices these online travel companies have for package travel. Remember the old saying “you get what you pay for”? That is exactly what you get. These companies contract with Hotels and Airlines; they combine “substandard rooms” with some of the least desirable flights. You know, the stuff no one else wants to book. But, they get bonuses for filling these empty spaces.

If you use a traditional travel agent or consultant, you get to work with an actual person. This person can answer questions before you “click” purchase this trip. You can get brochures and information on destinations from your agent. They can tell you when the best time to visit your desired destination is, the most popular places to stay and visit, everything there is to do, etc. I guarantee that if you use the right agent, your vacation will be way more memorable than booking online.

What are the benefits of using a travel agent? Is it cost effective? Can they help me with details?

Question: What are the benefits of using a travel agent? Is it cost effective? Can they help me with details?
I am planning a trip to Jamaica & was considering using a travel agent. I have heard both that they are free because they get throw backs form the places they promote, and that they are not free and you have to pay booking fees. I was surfing expedia.com & priceline.com, but fear that I am not going to get what I am looking for if I buy a vacation package online. Can a travel agent help me secure vacation details & extras, particular suites, & first class tickets?

Answer:

Answer by Spartacus
I have travel both using travel agencies and booking online, and I guess none of them is better than the other, it all depends on your expectations, for example travel agencies have special offers to certain places, that will be cost effective and some of them are pretty cool, but you need to fly with certain airline, made the reservation with certain hotel etc, and if you want to have something different, then it begins to be expensive, for example they offer you a fave trip to cancun, but if you want to travel to panama city instead, staying in the same resort chain, the same amount of days, etc, it is far more expensive.
Now booking online offers you the possibility to select the hotel, the airline etc, etc, and you can save some money, but you need to book with a lil bit of anticipation time, and although you can book online a lot of services, you can have made a more detailed trip with the help of a good travel agent, as you wish with particular suites & first class tickets, of course it will cost a lil bit more, but you can see it as an investment, because you can travel with the security that you have a well planed trip.

What are the pros and cons to using a travel agent?

Question: What are the pros and cons to using a travel agent?
I’m going on my honeymoon this summer and everyone tells me that I should use a travel agent. I was just wondering, are they really worth it?? I know that they are supposed to tell you of any hidden fees, but what kind of fees do you have to pay them?? I’ve never traveled before so I’m really new to this. If I’ve already found a couple of packages that I think are pretty good deals is it worth using one?

Answer:

Answer by Barbados Chick
Here’s the deal. If you use a travel agent you have some insurance if anything goes wrong or you need to change anything. If you do not, as in you book online yourself, there is no one to help you if you need it – you’re on your own.
They are also supposed to know the quality of where they book you. We travel a lot and feel that even if we pay a bit more – and we don’t always – it is well worth it in the event we have a glitch that needs to be fixed. That is what you pay them for – they are the specialists in travel. Happy travels, be safe and have fun.
