I would be travelling to Varanasi shortly and need to book a car/taxi for sightseeing in Varanasi/Banaras. I need a local travel agent to book the cab as the hotels charge twice.

Book local use your own agent, if he or she can’t find what you are looking for , advise them to check into the company you want to use, if they don’t pay them commission they can or may add a mark up on the price.

You’re likely going to get a cheaper rate by going online and booking it yourself. Unless you’re such a novice that you’d need guidance in every aspect of your trip, skip paying the mark up for the agent’s fee. Are you American? Going to Hawaii won’t be a big task, but if you’re traveling out of the country, then it is better to consult an agent. That is the only time I do it, because they may have been to the place I’m traveling to, and can offer insight that the websites can’t. He or she can also give me tips, and I won’t have to bother with the hassle of finding out all of the international requirements on my own.

If you insist on getting one, make sure he/she is well versed in the area you’re going to. Ask for discounts or deals on excursions. Check their prices against online competitors – be sure you’re being treated fairly. Ask what incidental services they provide, such as calling your hotel in the event of a late check-in, or being a go-between on any disputes with the hotel/airline, etc.

Dream on, the only legitimate “travel agent” is a Consular/Visa Officer in an U.S. Embassy or Consulate General in Europe if you reside there..

Question: How do I find a reliable travel agent for local travel in Egypt?
I recently read that finding reliable _local_ tour operators for travel in Egypt is difficult, and that hotels are often times part of fraud that either overcharge tourists or do not deliver on the promises made for local Egyptian travel packages (i.e. site seeing at the pyramids, day trip to Sakara, trip to Alexandria, etc.).

Please let me know your tips for finding a local and reliable Egyptian travel agent. Please note that I am not asking for any travel agent in particular but for how to go about finding one. Thanks!

I work in the field and it’s not easy at all to explain how you can find one. There are many good ones but for the normal tourist all what he can do is to check how they deal with tourists or clients. If they keep the word or not. If they are always careless or not.
I have many ways to judge reliable travel agents, but it can’t be available for tourists.
